In April 2010 Polly Higgins proposed to the United Nations that Ecocide be made a crime. In September 2010 her book, Eradicating Ecocide: Laws and Governance to Prevent the Destruction of our Planet, was published and won the People's Book Prize for non-fiction in 2011. Her second book, Earth is our Business; Changing the Rules of the Game has just been published and Polly won the People and the Environment's 2012 Overall Champion Award.
In 2010 Polly Higgins, international lawyer and award-winning author of Eradicating Ecocide, proposed into the United Nations an international law of Ecocide to prohibit extensive damage, destruction to or loss of ecosystems of a given territory. Ecocide is a law that gives legal weight to the Earth's right to life.
